Data Sources and your Data

What is a Data Source in Appenate?

Data Sources in Appenate allow you to create and manage data sets that can be reused across multiple Forms and Screens. Examples of these are a list of choices, a product catalog, or a list of contacts.

Where Can a Data Source Be Used?

You can link Data Sources to Data or Choices fields in your Forms. They can also be used to back data for other screen types, such as Listing screens.

For instance, you might create a Data Source called “Contacts” and display it using a Listing screen. This Listing screen can appear as a separate icon on the app´s home screen, making the information easily accessible to users.

Benefits of Using Data Sources

  • Centralized management: Maintain your data sets in one place and use them across multiple Screens.
  • Automatic updates:  Any changes to a Data Source are automatically reflected on all linked screens.
  • Efficient deployments: Linked Screens on mobile devices update seamlessly when the Data Source changes, without requiring manual action.

Integration with External Systems

You can update your Data Sources through the integration API if you have technical personnel. This enables you to connect Appenate with your existing systems. Changes to database tables or lists within your existing systems automatically update in your mobile app.

For example, you may maintain a catalogue of products in your inventory software. By hooking up the integration API, any inventory changes could automatically flow to your app users in the field.
